Lottery Jackpots rise to near record highs

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Both the Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots increased after no winners were drawn earlier this week.

The Mega Millions jackpot has risen up to $450 million while the Powerball is now at a whopping $570 million.

The likelihood of winning either of these jackpots is close to 1-in-300 million and the likelihood of winning both the jackpots, totaling more than $1.2 billion, is 1-in-88-quadrillion.

But to make you feel a little better about those odds, Kentucky does have a history of past jackpot winners.

“The largest Powerball prize ever awarded in Kentucky was $128 million several years ago to a couple out of Georgetown. So we have absolutely had Powerball winners. We’re one of the states with the most actually because we’ve been in the game for so long. We’re due for another one and we’d love to have another one come Monday morning,” said Chip Polston with the Kentucky Lottery.

The Mega Millions drawing is Friday and the Powerball is Saturday night.
