Woman accused of being intoxicated while caring for child

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A mother’s call to report a missing child resulted in her arrest.  The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office says the woman was under the influence with a child in her care.

Invesitgators say 51-year old Kimberly Cornett, of London, called deputies Thursday morning to report her 21-year-old son was missing.

The sheriff’s office says when deputies arrived at Cornett’s house on Plain View Drive to take the missing person report, she was intoxicated.  Investigators say they found an 11-year old child in the home.

Social services was contacted, according to deputies.  Investigators say Cornett had to be restrained by a deputy because she charged after the social worker when they arrived to investigate.

Cornett was charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place, disorderly conduct, menacing, resisting arrest, and wanton endangerment, according to deputies.

She was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

Investigators say Cornett’s 21-year old son was found safe in Lexington by police.
