London PD arrest man trying to break into South Laurel Middle School
LONDON, Ky (WTVQ) – A call from a bystander on Monday led police to the arrest of a man who was reportedly trying to break into South Laurel Middle School.
Police say the call came from a person at Bojangles restaurant on U.S. 25, who told them a man in white shorts and no shirt was throwing objects at the school’s windows, attempting to break them.
When officers arrived, they say they found 21-year-old Clarence Elkins, of Warfield, pulling on one of the school window’s, trying to break it with his hands. Investigators say two of the school’s window seals had been damaged.
When Elkins say police, they say he ran off on foot, but was quickly apprehended.
Then, while being taken to the Laurel County Detention Center, officers say Elkins slipped his handcuffs to the front of him and began damaging wires in an officer’s cruiser.
Elkins was charged with attempted burglary, public intoxication, fleeing or evading, resisting arrest, and criminal mischief.
