Local soccer leagues celebrating the U.S. Women’s National Teams big win

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Lexington Women’s Soccer League and Central Kentucky Adult Soccer got together at Lynagh’s Irish Pub watch the final World Cup Game.

The Irish Pub was full of soccer fans, who are excited about the end results.

“I think they could’ve put it away a little bit earlier but due to some silly mistakes and stuff like that,” says Ian Mathes of Central Kentucky Adult Soccer. “I think I mean at the end of the day they did pretty well.”

The National Team battled it out against the Netherlands and won 2 to 0.

Players on the U.S. Team are standing out not only as strong women but five of them are standing LGBTQ proud.

“I think it’s huge. my co-commissioner is also part of the LGBTQ community and we have several women within the league and we like to foster an environment for everybody to come play,” says Sarah Stykes, Co-Commissioner of the Lexington Women’s Soccer League.

Ella Woodford says when she grows up she wants to be a goalie for the U.S. Soccer Team.

“I liked it because I play soccer and it’s nice to see other people that are also wanting to play soccer just like me,” says Woodford.

The U.S. Women’s National Team is walking away with their 4th World Cup title.
