Local man collects more than 15,000 pounds of trash in local creeks
RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – Two years ago, a Richmond man watched five mattresses float down Tates Creek…and it ignited a new passion in him.
Curtis Eades, also known as ‘Creek Runner 242’ began collecting trash around different creeks, rivers and lakes in the area.
The name ‘Creek Runner’ was coined because he would run around each creek to get to the trash.
In the past two years Eades, along with a small team picked up more than 15 thousand pounds of trash…10 thousand pounds in Tate’s Creek alone.
His efforts have been recognized all over social media…with more than 15 thousand followers…inspiring others to do the same.
“You know it’s pretty amazing that we’re all coming together, but at the same time it also shows that there’s a huge problem and that there’s you know literally millions of pounds of trash left to remove”
Not only is he fighting litter in local streams, but up-cycling some into artwork, and selling it…with the eventual goal of creating a non-profit for other artists.
