Local foundation holds first ‘Families Fighting Fentanyl’ event
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – One local foundation, the Bright Light Foundation, is holding its first Families Fighting Fentanyl event.
The event began at 5 p.m. at the Moondance Amphitheatre.
The purpose is to bring awareness to the fentanyl crisis in the U.S. and in Kentucky and to educate people on the statistics of kids, teens, young adults and adults dying from fentanyl.
Cheyenne Helm, the founder of Bright Light Foundation, started the foundation after she lost her child Brighton in 2023 from fentanyl poisoning.
“I didn’t know what fentanyl was and I started doing research on it and god just placed it in my heart to bring about an organization to bring awareness to this<” said Helm. “Since then I have seen so many people and kids being effected by this and passing away, so I just want to bring awareness and save as many people as possible.”
Helm says that it’s through her pain and her daughter’s light that this foundation and event are happening.
The event will lasted until 8 p.m.
