Liquor store open after overnight standoff

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Pat’s Coroner Liquor was back open Thursday after being surrounded by police overnight when a man barricaded himself inside.

Police say it started at around 10:30 p.m. when officers tried to make a traffic stop on what they believed was a stolen vehicle.

They say the driver, later identified as Timothy Caldwell, drove to Pat’s Corner Liquor on Georgetown Street, got out of the car and ran inside, grabbing a gun that he found behind the counter.

Police say there were employees in the store at the time. One of jumped out the drive-thru window to escape and another hid in a beer cooler for hours, turning up the thermostat to stay warm.

The store owner says Caldwell found the hiding employee but eventually let him free.

Just before six Thursday morning, police were able to enter the building and arrest Caldwell without further incident.

He faces dozens of charges, including reckless driving, wanton endangerment, and criminal mischief. Police report he will likely be arraigned tomorrow.
