Lingering snow showers Friday ahead of bitter cold tonight

All of the region waking up to fresh snow for your Friday. Snow showers will slowly taper off across central Kentucky through the rest of the day, while the ridgetops in eastern Kentucky could see snow linger through the overnight hours. Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect for central Kentucky through 7 p.m. Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect for eastern Kentucky through 7 a.m. Saturday. As snow tapers off today, another shot of arctic air moves by tonight.

Despite starting the day in the 20s, many will end the afternoon in the teens. Overnight, temperatures will fall all the way into the single digits. As temperatures drop, the breeze will continue leading to bitter cold wind chills. A Wind Chill Advisory goes into effect at 10 p.m. Friday night in central Kentucky and will last until 10 a.m. Saturday. Wind chills will likely drop to 10-15 below zero for most areas.

This cold arctic air continues through weekend. As we clear the skies Saturday night, many will wake up to subzero actual air temperatures on Sunday. Wind chills will obviously be much colder than that. However, Sunday is the beginning of the end to this arctic pattern. Temperatures will climb into the 40s and 50s, maybe even pushing the 60s by Thursday of next week. This will be accompanied by rain, potentially heavy rain late next week.
