Lincoln County K9 officer gets body armor

LINCOLN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office K9 is getting some extra protection.

The sheriff’s office says K9 Luma received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

The cost to provide one protective vest for a law enforcement K9 is $950.00. The vests are valued between $1,744 – $2,283.

According to the sheriff’s office, Luma vest was purchased with funds from grants and local community partnerships.

Luma began working for the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office in April 2018 and is trained in narcotic detection and tracking.

The sheriff’s office says Luma has assisted in getting several thousands of dollars worth of illegal narcotics off the streets as well as the seizure of approx $14,000 in cash and several firearms.

Luma’s new vest is embroidered with the sentiment “In memory of K9 Ty, California City Police Department”.
