Lightning Safety Awareness Week

National Lightning Safety Week is designed to remind everyone how to stay safe from lightning.

If you hear thunder or see lightning, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. To stay safe, seek shelter inside a substantial shelter such as a home. Dugouts, picnic shelters, and porches are not safe locations.

While inside, stay away from any plumbing or electronics.

Before heading back outside after a storm, you should wait 30 minutes after the last lightning you see or thunder you hear. Lightning can strike miles ahead of or behind a storm’s rain.
