Light snow possible in the Bluegrass before a cold, calm weekend
Cold conditions continue
Cold weather remains in place across the Bluegrass, with temperatures staying well below normal.
Clouds will increase through the day, but most locations remain dry ahead of the next weather system.
Highs range from the upper 20s to low 30s, keeping conditions cold despite limited precipitation.
Light snow chances increase through AM
A fast-moving system will bring a chance for winter weather to parts of central and eastern Kentucky on Friday.
The best chance for precipitation is across the eastern Bluegrass, where light snow is most likely. Farther west, precipitation may be lighter or briefly mix with rain before colder air takes over.
Snowfall totals are expected to stay light, generally under an inch, but even small amounts could lead to slick roads, especially during the late morning and afternoon hours. Because of this, a Winter Weather advisory is in effect for northeastern portions of KY, mainly along and north of I-64, and also including some far eastern counties. These adviosires las through the evening.
Winds increase as the system moves through, and temperatures fall quickly behind it. Some locations may briefly warm ahead of the front before colder air sweeps back into the region.
Additional snow possible Friday night
Behind the system, colder air deepens across the Bluegrass Friday night. A secondary push of moisture may bring another round of light snow, mainly across eastern portions of the region.
Any accumulation should remain minor, but falling temperatures could allow untreated roads to become slick by early Saturday.
Overall, snowfall accumulations at the end of this system will range from trace amounts to half an inch for much of the Bluegrass, with totals near 1″ possible to the northeast.
A cold weekend with gradual improvement
The weekend begins on a cold note, with Saturday featuring below-normal temperatures and mostly dry conditions. Any leftover snow or moisture from Friday night could create slick spots early, especially on untreated surfaces. Skies trend partly sunny through the day, but temperatures struggle to warm, remaining in the 20s and lower 30s.
By Sunday, temperatures begin a slow rebound across the Bluegrass. Eastern areas may stay cooler longer, while central Kentucky sees more noticeable improvement. Despite the warming trend, dry weather is expected, making for quieter conditions overall.
Milder weather next week
Early next week brings a more noticeable warm-up as winds turn southerly and temperatures climb back into the 40s and possibly higher.
Dry weather is expected at first, which will help to improve travel conditions by melting off snow and ice.
By the middle of the week, the next system approaches, bringing a chance for rain. Temperatures look warm enough to keep precipitation liquid, signaling a shift toward a more active but milder weather pattern.
