LFD: Sparks from circular saw started fire at Blue Grass Stockyards

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Lexington Fire Department has released a report saying the fire at the Blue Grass Stockyards started with a spark.

According to the report, construction workers were cutting through metal roofing with a circular saw, shooting sparks that landed on flammable materials.

The two-week investigation into the fire included on-scene examination, review of surveillance video, and eyewitness interviews.

After the flames had started, the fire department says low humidity and high winds caused the fire to spread to several other businesses.

At its height, 120 firefighters were on-hand, battling the flames.

184 vehicles were destroyed and 49 animals died in the fire.

No people were injured.
