Traffic violation leads to arrest of accused serial scam artist
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Lexington Police say they found and arrested a man wanted on seven outstanding warrants, among new charges.
Police say 54-year-old Sherman Denny was arrested after making an improper turn and disregarding a traffic control device. Denny also had seven warrants out for three counts of theft by deception, probation violation, wanton endangerment, fleeing and evading, and failure to appear out of Clark County.
“As the press coverage intensified, and the number of warrants built up, he’s become more aggressive in his efforts to get away from us,” said Lieutenant Chris Van Brackel with the Lexington Police Department.
Police say that earlier this month, a woman reported to police that a man, later identified as Sherman Denny, approached her in a parking lot stating he was from out of town and forgot his diabetes medication. The victim provided cash to Denny in exchange for his alleged promise to pay her back, however, Denny gave the victim a false address and phone number.
