Lexington Police investigating scam referencing the department

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- The Lexington Police Department says someone might be claiming to be a police officer as a way to get money.

The department says someone contacted it to report a person had called, claiming to be a an officer who had an “urgent” message.

When the person called back, someone on the other end answered by saying “Lexington Police”.

Then the suspect threatened to arrest the caller if they didn’t send money by Green Dot card to a U.S. Marshal’s office in Virginia.

Lexington police say this is a scam they’re investigating.
