Lexington Police honor heroic actions by officers and civilians

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Lexington Police Department honored officers and civilians for heroic actions and public service during an annual awards ceremony on Tuesday evening.

Among the honorees, Zara Adil, who fought off two suspects who tried to rob the Tobacco Zone on North Broadway on February 27, 2015.  The struggle was caught on surveillance tape.  It shows Adil grabbing a gun from one of the suspect’s and shooting him in the shoulder during a struggle.

Brandon Weyhing was recognized for helping stop a robbery at a bank ATM.  Scott Dawson was honored for his work examining a computer hard drive that led to a child pornography conviction.  And, the Police Officer of the Year was Detective Matthew Evans, who uncovered drug dealers working out of some Lexington stores.
