Lexington Polar Plunge cancelled for 2015

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Severe weather canceled the 17th annual Special Olympics Polar Plunge in Lexington on Saturday.

Special Olympics Kentucky posted a statement to their website Saturday morning that says, “We tried. We really did. Unfortunately for the first time in the 17 year history of the Polar Plunge in Kentucky, Mother Nature tried just a little bit harder.”

They statement goes on to say, because of road conditions throughout Central Kentucky, all Lexington Polar Plunge activities have now been canceled.

Special Olympics Kentucky says, if you have raised money, you will still be able to pick up your shirts and other fundraising prizes at Texas Roadhouse on Richmond Road on Thursday, February 26, from 4-7 p.m.

”Please know that we hate having to do this, but we would hate it even more if something happened to one of the wonderful people who work so hard each year to support our athletes,” the statement says.
