Lexington Mayor Promises to Reimburse Coal Severance Funds

Lexington Mayor Jim Gray announced Tuesday that coal counties will be paid back $2.5 million in severance funds that were used by the state to update Rupp Arena.

Gray also said Lexington will make the reimbursement a part of its overall financing plan for the arena.

The Mayor is still pushing for $65 million in state funding for the project, which he said will add 4,400 jobs during construction, followed by 3,000 permanent jobs in the Bluegrass.

Rupp Arena is 38 years old and no longer competitive, according to Gray.
