Lexington mayor to announce police chief choice Monday

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington Mayor Jim Gray is scheduled to announce his choice for the city’s new police chief Monday, February 5, 2018.

A news conference is scheduled for 11:00  a.m. in the lobby of the Government Center at 200 East Main Street.

The new chief will replace Mark Barnard, who announced his retirement last November.

Mayor Gray named Barnard chief in 2014.  He was with the Lexington Police Department for 31-years.

Assistant Chief Ron Compton has served as interim chief.
