Lexington man suspected of vehicle break-ins across the state

ROWAN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Rowan County has been added to the list of more than a dozen counties where a Lexington man is accused of breaking into vehicles.

According to The Morehead News, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office says 25-year-old Dario Mauriz-Cruz admitted to breaking into at least 30 vehicles near the Sharkey community.

The newspaper reports the thefts happened earlier this year.

Mauriz-Cruz is currently in jail Boyle County after going before a judge in Mercer County earlier this month and pleading not guilty to car theft and criminal mischief in connection to 18 car break-ins in that county.

Authorities say they believe Mauriz-Cruz is responsible for thefts in more than 20 Kentucky counties and three states.

He is accused of stealing guns, purses, wallets, GPS systems, electronics, cash, credit cards and other property.

Investigators believe Mauriz-Cruz would use a real estate app to find housing developments to target.
