Lexington flu cases on the rise again

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — Lexington flu cases are on the rise for another week.

The city saw 243 new lab-confirmed flu cases, bringing the total for the season to 1,591, according to the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department.

About 82 percent of the cases hadn’t received the seasonal flu shot.

Lexington also saw 115 new COVID-19 cases last week, which doesn’t include home-test kits.

The health department recommends the following to help slow the spread of flu and COVID-19:

  • Wearing a well-fitted mask in public areas
  • Avoiding close contact with people who are sick
  • Staying home when sick
  • Covering coughs and sneezes
  • Avoiding touching your eyes, nose and mouth
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
