Lightning strike possible cause of apartment fire in Lexington
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Investigators say a lightning strike may be to blame for a fire that damaged one unit in an apartment building Thursday night on Cross Keys Road in Lexington.
The call came in at 10:34 p.m. A total of 15 fire units responded to the scene in the 1000 block of Cross Keys Road. Firefighters say smoke was coming from the roof when they arrived. They say they had everything out and under control in about ten minutes. The apartment building was evacuated as a precaution.
Investigators say lightning is just one of several things being looked at as the possible cause of the fire.
Firefighters say several people were displaced by the fire and the local chapter of the American Red Cross was brought in to help people find a temporary place to stay.
No injuries were reported, according to the fire department.
