Lexington firefighter hurt battling early morning fire

LEXINGTON Ky., (WTVQ) – A Lexington firefighter broke his angle and ribs after falling down stairs fighting a house fire early Monday morning, according to the Lexington Fire Department.

Investigators say the firefighter, whose name was not released, was going to the second floor of the house when he fell about six-feet down the stairs.  The firefighter was treated and released from the hospital, according to the fire department.

Investigators say the fire started around 4:30 a.m. in the 100 block of West Maxwell Street.

Crews say when they arrived, they saw heavy smoke coming from the home. They say the bulk of the fire was extinguished quickly.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
