Lexington Fire Dept. Welcomes New Junior Fire Chief
Clays Mill Elementary student Alex Brown was named as the department’s 2014 Junior Fire Chief.
The fifth-grader earned the title by winning a school contest for Fire Prevention Week.
Brown wrote an essay and made a poster that featured Sparky the Fire Dog, a fire truck and a smoke alarm.
She said she had researched smoke alarms and how the devices saved lives.
Lexington Fire Chief Keith Jackson and several firefighters recognized Brown Tuesday during a ceremony at her school.
The department said Brown would serve as honorary chief over the next week while visiting places in Lexington such as Keeneland and Blue Grass Airport.
Brown also planned to visit the ABC 36 studios to appear as a guest during the noon show on Thursday, September 2nd.
