Lexington Fire Dept. Warns Community About Phone Scam

The Lexington Fire Department warned the community Monday about a fundraising phone scam.

It said that someone was contacting people and asking for money for the department.

The caller was reportedly asking people to mail checks to an address in Topeka, Kansas.

But it was a hoax.

According to the fire department, the Fraternal Order of Firefighters, and the International Association of Firefighters, Local 526 were not currently raising money.

Anyone who was contacted by phone about making a donation was asked to call police.
