Lexington deals with flooded roads & power outages

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- The storm that rolled through Central and Eastern Kentucky Monday afternoon left debris and high waters throughout Lexington.

The city says traffic lights were out in several areas, including Winchester Road, Sir Barton Way, Clays Mill Road and Harrodsburg Road. Drivers are being asked to treat flashing traffic lights as four-way stops.

There are also roads and streets covered with broken tree limbs and flood waters. And the city says firefighters were called out after a basement wall collapsed.

"This is first of at least three separate weather systems that will come through Lexington over the next 24 hours," said Patricia Dugger, Director of Lexington Emergency Management. "We want residents to stay aware of changing weather conditions as we expect at least two more severe weather systems to hit the city with heavy rain, extreme wind and lightning.”

As of this writing, K.U. reported that about 1,400 customers were without power in Fayette County. Click here for the outage map.
