Lexington Arts Awards honors local artists

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Renowned Lexington artists are making it even easier for people to enjoy not just their works but that of others as well.

Today, Arts Connect, a local non-profit, hosted the Lexington Arts Awards at the Lyric Theatre. The event honored a diverse group of artists in different art genres, from visual and literary arts to performing arts.

Moving forward, the local creators hope that Lexington arts become more diverse and accessible, and for people to engage with the many art events that Lexington has to offer.

“I think that’s going to be a big direction in the arts in Lexington–to be more accessible, more diverse, and to reach as many people as possible,” said Arts Educator Award recipient Larry Snipes.

“I think for the entire community, it’s just doing a little bit of research, going just a little further than you would on a normal day to find art,” said Performing Arts Award recipient Jenny Fitzpatrick.

The artists were nominated for the awards by the community, and were then voted on by a committee at Arts Connect. Among the award recipients were LaVon Williams, Jr. for Visual Arts, Jenny Fitzpatrick for Performing Arts, Katrina Stoykova-Klemer for Literary Arts, and Larry and Vivian Snipes for Arts Educator. Councilperson Kathy Plomin and Former Councilperson Jennifer Mossotti were given the Arts Impact and Contribution Award as Arts Benefactors.
