Lex4Palestine holds rally downtown
Lexington, Ky. (WTVQ) — Lex4Palestine held a rally on Main Street on Friday.
During the rally, people traveling down Main Street could hear many chants.
One person spoke about how they are protesting to get a cease fire for Palestine and to stop the fund from the U.S. to genocide.
“I’m one of the Christian Palestinians, I lived in Palestine for 26 years,” said Mosa Samann. “We get treated like, basically Muslim and Christian they get treated the same. What you hear here most Christians, American or European, they support Israel. But they forgot there is a lot of Christians that lives back home, even in Gaza strip.”
One organizer spoke about why peaceful rallies, like the one today, are needed.
“A lot of people think that what’s happening in Palestine is isolated to Palestine, but we’re here to let you all know that Palestinians in Lexington are also being affected,” said Hannah Isa, an organizer with Lex4Palestine. “We’re facing discrimination here as well. We have Lexingtonians here that losing family members in Gaza. There are Lexingtonians who have lost over 40 family members since October 7th. So for us, we’re being a voice for them and a voice for ourselves letting people know that what’s happening in Palestine is not okay and we will not let it continue as normal.”
Isa says it comforts her to know that many people who come out to rally are not Palestinian, saying this is a humanitarian issue and they see it as a human rights issue they are speaking up for.
