Lewis County traffic to be impacted by paving work on KY 9

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (WTVQ/Press Release) – As part of a $746,000 pavement preservation project, road work will begin on the Grayson spur of the AA Highway, or KY 9, in Lewis County starting the week of Aug. 16.

Contractors will put down a thin layer of microsurface, a polymer-based blacktop, on eight miles of the Grayson supr from KY 10 near Vanceburg to the Lewis-Carter county line to preserve the asphalt underneath.

As the work goes on, traffic will be reduced to one lane controlled by flaggers. Because of the long curing times needed for microsurface, lengthy delays should be expected. Traffic could possibly be stopped at crossroads and entrances as well.

The paving operations should take around two weeks to finish. Drivers should adjust travel times accordingly or take alternate routes.

Cape seals, chip seals, and microsurfacing are common cost-efficient pavement preservation techniques that extend the life of roadways until a higher-cost, full resurfacing project is needed.

This microsurfacing project is being done by Strawser Construction Inc., and subsidiaries, under a $745,998.97 low-bid Kentucky Transportation Cabinet contract.

Road work schedules could change depending on weather conditions. Drivers are asked to pay attention to all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
