LCA releases statement after photo released of students ‘choking’ Ocasio-Cortez

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington Christian Academy is responding after a photo surfaced on social media, showing students from the school wearing “Team Mitch” shirts and seeming to choke and grope a cardboard cutout of Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

The Democrat from New York called out Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Twitter after the photo with the caption “break me off a piece of that” appeared Monday night and went viral.

“Hey @senatemajldr – these young men look like they work for you,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. “Just wanted to clarify: are you paying for young men to practice groping & choking members of Congress w/ your payroll,” she asked, “or is this just the standard culture of #TeamMitch?”

The Lexington Christian Academy says its students were in the photo and were attending the Fancy Farm Picnic over the weekend when the picture was taken.

Lexington Christian Academy released a statement Tuesday on the incident saying: “Lexington Christian Academy officials are aware of a photo circulating on social media which includes LCA students attending a recent, non-school event. This matter has been addressed with the students and families involved.”

McConnell’s campaign manager Kevin Golden also responded.

“We’ve watched for years as the far-left and the media look for every possible way to demonize, stereotype, and publicly castigate every young person who dares to get involved with Republican politics,” Golden told ABC News. “Team Mitch in no way condones any aggressive, suggestive, or demeaning act toward life sized cardboard cutouts of any gender in a manner similar to what we saw from President Obama’s speech writing staff several years ago.”
