Lawyers for accused Marshall Co. school shooter want trial moved

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lawyers for a teenager accused in last year’s deadly shooting at Marshall County High School have requested a change of venue for the trial.

WKMS reports the lawyers for Gabe Parker say the case has generated “a great deal of publicity” in local, regional and national news coverage and that the allegations against Parker are “sensational.”

The lawyers argue, because Marshall County only has one high school, it is not possible for local jurors to be unbiased, according to WKMS.

Parker has been indicted on two counts of murder and 14 counts of assault, after police say he opened fire with a handgun at Marshall County High School on January 23, 2018.

The petition will be heard in the Marshall Circuit Court on May 17 at 1 p.m.

His trial was expected to start next year.
