Lawsuit unsealed alleging 2 Louisville officers abused youth
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) – A judge has unsealed a lawsuit alleging two Louisville Metro Police officers sexually abused a former member of the department’s Youth Explorer program when he was a teen.
The Courier-Journal reports (http://cjky.it/2p1gEUo) it and another media outlet argued for the suit to be unsealed, saying the public has a right to know of accusations against police.
Officer Brandon Wood and former Officer Kenneth Betts are named in the suit. The paper reports Wood’s attorney said his client is innocent while Betts’ attorney declined comment.
Now 22, the plaintiff is identified only as N.C. His attorney, David Yates, has filed to prevent release of his name. Wood’s attorney Kenneth Bohnert argued the plaintiff’s anonymity is unfair since the officers have been identified. A hearing on that issue is planned later.
