Laurel Cty. detective to present crystal meth case to federal grand jury

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- Laurel County Sheriff John Root says his office will be presenting a crystal meth trafficking case to a federal grand jury. Root says the case stems from the November 4, 2014 arrests of two people on Dolly Miller Road, north of London.

Deputies say the suspects are 37-year-old Deborah Delane Asher of Somerset and 57-year-old Richard Jeffrey Rice of East Bernstadt. The sheriff’s office says they were caught with 3.37 grams of crystal meth and a set of digital scales. According to investigators, both Asher and Rice were charged with trafficking in a controlled substance – first degree – first offense – methamphetamine.

The sheriff’s office says the case was not presented to the Laurel County grand jury since it would go before a federal grand jury for a possible indictment.
