Large fire breaks out at recycling center in Williamsburg
WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (WTVQ) – Multiple fire departments are on the scene of a fire at a recycling center in Whitley County.
The Whitley County Fire Department says at least eight departments are working the fire at the Eastern Kentucky Recycling Center on Savoy Clear Creek Road in Williamsburg.
The fire broke out in a large pile of scrap metal around 9 a.m. Thursday.
Crews were able to knock it down but say it continues to flare up.
All Williamsburg residents south of the recycling center are being asked to stay indoors because the smoke.
The Whitley County Fire Department says people can go to the Williamsburg Civic Center if they have breathing issues or health concerns.
Firefighters say they expect to be at the scene for several more hours.
