KY man drowns after trying to rescue daughter in Gulf of Mexico

FORT MORGAN, Ala. (AP) – A Kentucky man has drowned after trying to rescue his daughter in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Alabama.

News outlets report that 50-year-old Kevin Chitwood died from his injuries Tuesday night at a hospital, where he was taken Monday. Baldwin County Coroner Stan Vinson said the cause of death was drowning.

Investigators say the Louisville man was on vacation with his family when he tried to save his daughter and her friend, who were in distress, and got caught in a rip tide.
