Ky House Committee Looks At Proposed Fairness Law
For the first time ever, a Kentucky House committee Wednesday listened to testimony on a proposed statewide fairness law.
The bill had been proposed before.
It would make it illegal to discriminate against anybody in the LGBT community in employment, housing, and public accommodations.
A former police officer testified Wednesday to the committee.
Kile Nave said he was fired, because he is gay.
"It’s just a great step forward for Kentucky that we’re actually getting the hearing. Like you heard in there, it’s been several years that they’ve tried to get a hearing set, and to have that happen today it’s just very historic," said Nave.
Lexington and Louisville are among the six Kentucky cities that had similar ordinances.
