KSP: Trooper involved in fatal shooting

PINE TOP, Ky. (WTVQ) – Kentucky State Police say a man was shot and killed by a trooper after an altercation in front of a home in Knott County.

State Police say they were called to the home on Nealy Creek Road in Pine Top at around 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Neighbors say the man was walking on the roadway with a gun, threatening to shoot anyone who came around his home.

Police say a trooper tried to talk to the man, who began making threats to kill the trooper and started bringing his right arm around in an aggressive manor in the direction of the trooper. State police say the trooper who had engaged the man fired three shots, striking him at least two times.

The man died at the scene.

The name of the man and the trooper were not released.

State police say the investigation into the shooting is in the preliminary stages.
