KSP: Trooper fatally shoots suspect who dragged him

Hopkinsville, Ky. (WTVQ) – A man is dead after dragging a trooper and leading officers on a chase in Christian County, according to Kentucky State Police.

State Police say the Christian County Sheriff’s Department called around 12:24 a.m. Monday to help assist with a driver slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle on Meacham Road and Greenville Road.

When deputies and the trooper arrived on scene, they say they discovered the vehicle was stolen from Akron, Ohio.

They say the driver became uncooperative and, when the trooper tried to remove him from the car, the man drove off, dragging the trooper.

While in pursuit of of the driver, they say his car, for some unknown reason, caught fire and became engulfed in flames.

State Police say after the pursuit stopped, there was another altercation with the suspect and he was fatally shot by the trooper.

The suspect was pronounced dead at scene by the Christian County Coroner.

The investigation is ongoing by the Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team.

The identity of the suspect is currently unknown.
