KSP: Semi truck driver arrested in hit-and-run accident

Columbia, Ky. (WTVQ) – A semi truck driver is behind bars following an accident in Adair County that left a man in critical condition.

Kentucky State Police say 28-year-old James Burris, of Columbia, was driving a 2000 Freightliner on KY80 Friday evening when he crossed the center line, hitting a car being operated by
71-year-old Danny Helm, also of Columbia.

Troopers say Helm was wearing his seat belt and was airlifted to University of Kentucky hospital with life-threatening injuries. He is currently listed in critical condition.

Police say Burris was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and was taken to T. J. Health hospital in Columbia.

Burris was later arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident.
