KSP releases new information on shooting death of Hopkinsville Police Officer
Hopkinsville, Ky. (WTVQ) – Investigators have released new information on the death of Hopkinsville Police Officer, Phillip Meacham.
Investigators say that on March 29, 2018 Officer Phillip Meacham, off duty in his personal vehicle, saw another car with flashing blue lights approach behind him in the area of Faulkner Drive. The car with unlawful emergency lights was being operated by James K. Decoursey, who turned onto another street.
Officials say Officer Meacham was able to get back behind Mr. Decoursey, and contacted an on-duty supervisor, requesting a uniformed officer to assist in investigating the car with flashing lights. After Decoursey pulled onto Paulette Court, a dead end street, Officer Meacham remained nearby to make sure Decoursey did not leave.
Investigators say at 5:11 PM a uniformed officer met Officer Meacham before they approached Decoursey, who appeared to be working on his vehicle in a driveway. Decoursey shot Officer Meacham, after contact was made, then fled the scene.
Investigators say Officer Meacham was transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.
