WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) — State Police say a trooper shot and killed a man early Monday morning, after threatening his own child with a box cutter.

According to police, they were called by the Whitley County Sheriff’s Office around 1:30 Monday morning about a man sitting in a car in his driveway, threatening his 1-year-old child.

State Police say when they arrived, the man had tried to barricade himself inside with the child, which led to a trooper forcing the door open.

They say when the trooper found the man, a fight happened, and the man pulled out a weapon.

Police could not confirm what that weapon was.

They say the trooper then shot and killed the man.

He was pronounced dead on scene.

They say the trooper and one year old were not hurt, but they couldn’t confirm if they were the only ones inside the home.
