KSP: Man claims he accidental shot himself in Pike County

MCCAR, Ky. (WTVQ) – Troopers say a man told them he accidentally shot himself in Pike County on Wednesday, but they say the story doesn’t add up.

Kentucky State Police say troopers were called about a reported shooting near the Mini Mall in McCarr around 10 p.m.

When they got there, troopers say they found evidence that someone had been shot and learned that two cars left the area around the time of the shooting, headed toward West Virginia.

Shortly after, State Police say Brian Abshire showed up at the Tug Valley Hospital and claimed he accidentally shot himself when he dropped a gun.

Troopers say inconsistencies in Abshire’s story and evidence they collected at the scene led them to open an assault investigation.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Kentucky State Police at (606) 433-7711.
