UPDATE: One killed, driver injured in Harlan County crash
HARLAN, Ky. (WTVQ) – One person was killed and the driver of a car injured in a one-car crash Saturday night.
According to the Kentucky State Police, Jordan Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Highway 72 in Harlan County.
Troopers said that Saturday, at about 7:22 p.m. they received a call about a single vehicle collision on Ky 72 in the Harlan community of Harlan County.
Trooper Aaron Caldwell, Tpr. Daniel Mann and Tpr. Brandon Pierson responded to the scene.
Initial investigation indicates a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt was traveling west on Ky 72 and lost control, according to the KSP. The vehicle left the right side of the road and struck a wooden fence.
The vehicle then continued through a field before striking a utility pole, overturning in the field and came to rest on all four wheels, the KSP said.
Deputy Coroner Jim Rich responded and pronounced the passenger, Jordan Johnson, of Harlan deceased at the scene.
The 17-year-old driver of the car was transported to Harlan ARH Hospital for moderate injuries.
Det. Jacob Middleton is continuing the investigation. Also assisted at the scene were Det. Rodney Sturgill and Deputy Coroner Jim Rich.
