KSP investigate inmate death in state prison

EDDYVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – State Police are investigating the death of an inmate in the Kentucky State Penitentiary in Eddyville on Tuesday.

Investigators say the prison called authorities for an inmate who wasn’t breathing.

39-year old Marcus Penman, of Hopkinsville, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lyon County deputy coroner, according to State Police.

The Kentucky Department of Corrections says Penman was being housed in the restrictive custody unit for fighting and that he began self-harm actions. The DOC says prison staff attempted to prevent Penman’s reported behavior.

The inmate’s death is under investigation by State Police.
