KSP: Fayette Co. man arrested after going to hotel intending to meet minor

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – An undercover investigation conducted by Kentucky State Police with the Electronic Crime Branch has netted the arrest of a Fayette County man.

Troopers say the investigation began after 32-year-old Timothy M. Poynter II was discovered online seeking a young person for illicit sexual contact.  On Wednesday, police say Poynter arranged a meeting with what he believed to be a minor, and went to a Lexington hotel with the intent of engaging in sexual acts.

Upon arrival, police executed a search warrant on Poynter’s car, where they seized electronic equipment.  A forensic examination of the equipment is pending.

Currently, Poynter has been charged with one count of using an electronic communication system to procure a minor/police officer for sex offenses, as well as five counts of possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor.  Investigators say additional charges are expected.

Poynter was taken to the Fayette County Detention Center.
