KSP: Fayette Co. man arrested after going to hotel intending to meet minor
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – An undercover investigation conducted by Kentucky State Police with the Electronic Crime Branch has netted the arrest of a Fayette County man.
Troopers say the investigation began after 32-year-old Timothy M. Poynter II was discovered online seeking a young person for illicit sexual contact. On Wednesday, police say Poynter arranged a meeting with what he believed to be a minor, and went to a Lexington hotel with the intent of engaging in sexual acts.
Upon arrival, police executed a search warrant on Poynter’s car, where they seized electronic equipment. A forensic examination of the equipment is pending.
Currently, Poynter has been charged with one count of using an electronic communication system to procure a minor/police officer for sex offenses, as well as five counts of possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor. Investigators say additional charges are expected.
Poynter was taken to the Fayette County Detention Center.
