KSP: 1,200 Pounds of Prescription Drugs Collected During “Take Back” Day

State Police said they gathered around 1,200 pounds of prescription medicine during Saturday’s Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

Residents across the Bluegrass took their unneeded, unused or expired prescriptions and dropped them off at several posts around the state to make sure they don’t wind up in the wrong hands.

Studies show that over 1,000 Kentuckians die every year from painkillers. Kentucky has also been listed by Forbes magazine as the fourth most medicated state in the US and rates sixth when it comes to deaths tied to prescription drug overdose.
