KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Deputies say a man was arrested after assaulting a woman then leaving with his 3-year-old daughter, who was later found alone in the woods.

Knox County deputies say they were called at 12:05 a.m. Tuesday to a home on Alex Creek Road for a domestic violence complaint involving 39-year-old Christopher Stoots, of Flat Lick.

When they arrived, deputies say a woman told them Stoots had thrown her through a wall and choked her. She says Stoots then ran from the home into the pouring rain with his daughter, who was not wearing a coat, according to deputies.

After searching the area, deputies say a neighbor told them she heard a baby crying under her house then saw a man run into the woods carrying a child.

Deputies say a man found the child in the woods. They say the child was soaked and cold.

According to deputies, they found Stoots hiding in the woods and arrested him after a brief struggle.

After being placed inside the patrol car, deputies say Stoots ripped the inside panel off the door.

Deputies say the child and the woman who was reportedly assaulted were taken to the hospital.

Stoots is charged with wanton endangerment, endangering welfare of a minor, evading police, assault, resisting arrest, public intoxication/controlled substance, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct, according to deputies.
