Knife found in backpack at Frederick Douglass High School

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Frederick Douglass High School student was arrested Monday morning after school officials say a knife was found in his backpack.

Principal Lester Diaz sent a letter to parents, saying the knife was discovered during the bag check process at the school.

“The knife was classified as a deadly weapon and the student was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon on school property,” Diaz said in the letter.

Diaz also said the student had the knife for protection in his neighborhood and forgot he had left it in his backpack.

She credits the school’s added security measures with making sure the student was not able to get past the checkpoints.
