Kentucky Virtual Library names librarian as first recipient of service award

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – An award for outstanding service with the Kentucky Virtual Library has named it for its first recipient.

Sheree Williams, director of the Learning Commons and professor at Jefferson Community and Technical College, received the inaugural Sheree Award at a recent KYVL meeting in Frankfort, according to Ky Virtual Library.

They say the award honors Williams’ continued dedication to the KYVL through her contributions and leadership.

“It’s such a pleasure to honor Sheree for her 20 years of service to KYVL and, consequentially, the Commonwealth. Her talent and commitment have benefited many through the years, and it’s a privilege to recognize her contributions,” said KYVL Executive Director Ilona Burdette.

Williams, who has 28 years of service as an academic librarian, served on the committee that launched the library in 1999. Since that time, she has held leadership positions and served on various committees supporting the organization, which is the state’s hub for online research resources.

A program of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, KYVL provides online access to library services and resources at discounted rates to school, university, special and public libraries.
