Kentucky Theatre’s Re-Opening’s Tickets Gone Fast

Back in mid-February, the main theater closed.

After months of construction and updates, the Theatre is ready to re-live the years of memories and hopes to make some more.

Wednesday, it will celebrate with a free moving screening hosted by special guests Nick and Nina Clooney.

South Pacific at the Kentucky Theatre was the Clooney’s first date back in 1959.

The Theatre said the evening is open to the entire community and tickets are free but they had to be picked up in advance.

Tickets started to be handed out at two o’clock Sunday afternoon and the roughly 800 tickets were gone by six that night.

 “It’s really special to come here,” said David Tincher about the Kentucky Theatre.  “It’s part of the tradition of Lexington.”
 
“It is fun coming to a place that hasn’t changed as far as the interior since you’ve been child,” said Becky Byrne.
 
In partnership with the City of Lexington, The Friends of the Kentucky launched a fundraising campaign in October 2012 to raise funds for much-needed improvements to the historic theatre.

The Theatre has gone through two months of renovations including an updated projector and sound system, new carpet, lights and seats and a fresh coat of paint.
 
“But the place is still the same,” said Byrne.
 
Work isn’t finished yet, the outside marquee will be getting a facelift and there are plans to renovate the concession stand in the next few months.
 
The free event will begin at 7 p.m. with welcoming remarks from Nick Clooney.
 
Doors open at 6 p.m. and seating will be available on a first come, first served basis.
