Teenagers plead not guilty in case of dumpster baby

PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) – The two teenagers accused of discarding a newborn baby last year in an apartment complex dumpster have entered pleas of not guilty.

The Paducah Sun reports that a 15-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy entered their not-guilty pleas Thursday in McCracken Circuit Court after being charged with attempted murder, first-degree criminal abuse and tampering with physical evidence.

Investigators say a witness found a crying baby in a dumpster on July 30.

Sgt. Darrin Frommeyer of the McCracken County sheriff’s office says the 17-year-old is the boyfriend of the baby’s 15-year-old mother, who was taken to a hospital with bleeding hours after the baby was found.
Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Leigh Ann Dycus says she expects to make a plea agreement offer in the future.
